The Karl’s Johan gate leads straight from the parliament to the Royal Palace Oslo and is a lovely avenue lined with large planters filled with flowers. It is an ideal spot to sit at any of the cafes and restaurants to people watch and at around midday you can catch the military band march all the way up to the palace for the changing of the guard. There are nice parks and a large fountain. You will also see buskers perform (mainly music). It’s a lively place with a lot of the usual brand names for shopping seen in most cities around the world.
