Storting Building

Another huge part of the Norwegian tradition and History. The Storting Building is the seat of the Supreme legislature of Norway (Storting) established in 1814. The building is located on Karl Johan’s Gate 22 in central Oslo. The building currently entertains the Parliament of Norway. Though initially the building had the office of Auditor General of Norway, National Archival Services and The Mapping and Cadastre Authority but as the Parliament expanded all of them moved out.

The Storting Building has been constructed in an eclectic architectural style. The building is assembled with yellow bricks in detail with light gray granite being used in the basement. The hands behind this masterpiece architect were of Emil Victor Langlet. Choosing the Architect for this historic building wasn’t an easy task. A competition was set up in 1856 in which architects around the globe gathered and gave their samples however the samples gave the building a church look which was not what they were looking for.

The construction of this building started on 3 rd August 1860 and was initially Inaugurated on 5 th March 1866. The Storting Building cost a total of 957,332 Norwegian Krones. The building has a huge fan following as a great history and it’s more modernized than any other historic building as it was renovated after the German Invasion.

When the Germans invaded Norway in 1940, the Storting Building was taken over by German forces and was used as Barrack for the German Army. Later the administration moved into the building and refurbished the Lagting Chamber and the Interior was redecorated in a modern funky style which provided the Storting Building with a new look which was loved even more by
the people and it ended up-to be one of tourists main attraction.

The Storting Building by now has gotten its name engraved in the books of Norwegian history and alongside that it has been one of the most favorite destinations for people who praise antique architectural work. That’s it, we hope you have added another name to your Norwegian wish list. Ha Det !
